Jay BeVille

Jay BeVille maintains an active schedule as music educator and choral conductor. For the past eleven years he has served Hanover County Public Schools as Performing Arts Specialist working with a staff of forty-five teachers in twenty-three schools. Since 2002 Mr. BeVille has led the Williamsburg Choral Guild in twenty full-length masterworks and numerous other choral selections representing a wide array of concert literature, including folk songs, spirituals and Broadway show tunes. This past season the Williamsburg Choral Guild’s performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah was acclaimed in the Virginia Gazette as "a mighty performance that was among the Guild’s finest musical moments....Jay BeVille was in full control of the score, superbly coordinating efforts between the singers and soloists and the exceptionally fine orchestra…"

In September 2009 Mr. BeVille will prepare the Greater Richmond Children's Choir in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana for the Richmond Symphony season premier at the newly renovated Carpenter Theater at Richmond CenterStage. This September also marks the opening of the Genworth BrightLights Education Center located directly adjacent to the Carpenter Theater. Mr. BeVille has served as a consultant in the planning of the Education Center which will provide students from Richmond and surrounding counties opportunities to expand their knowledge and experience of all aspects of the performing arts.

Mr. BeVille has worked as a soloist and choral singer under the batons of several well-known conductors and composers, such as Norman Dello Joio, Thomas Dunn, Dale Warland and George Manahan. He has served as adjunct faculty in choral music for Virginia Commonwealth University and is an active clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor.

A native of Virginia, Mr. BeVille lives in Hanover County with his wife, Sheilah, and youngest daughter, Madeline. They also have two grown children, Jonathan and Sarah.
